The ARE-ON Network
The ARE-ON Network is a fiber-optic-based network backbone traversing the geography of Arkansas and beyond, purpose-built to deliver high-throughput connectivity to the leading community anchor institutions in Arkansas. We currently serve more than 60 institutional sites across Arkansas.
The ARE-ON Network Difference
ARE-ON’s founding philosophy is that each institution connected to its network should receive a high-quality delivery of network services. That’s shown through our extensive facilities and equipment located around the state that delivers a high-throughout, low-latency network connection within our in-state network and connections to the internet and national research infrastructure like Internet2. A key to our service is the provider and geographic diversity engineered into the ARE-ON network through multiple internet providers and geographically diverse in- ter-state connections.
The Backbone
ARE-ON utilizes an extensive network of fiber-optic infrastructure, covering 2,200 miles, 58 locations, and five states. We connect our network to point-of-presence locations in Tulsa, OK, and Dallas, TX, which allows our members priority access to Tier-1 internet providers, and world-class internet content services. This access enables fast delivery of internet content and services directly to our members, with out intermediary carriers. ARE-ON operates dozens of points of presence across urban and rural areas of the state to deliver our connections to our members. Our network's scale and architecture allow a level of robustness that can withstand fiber cuts, equipment faults, planned maintenance, and other impacts.
Unmatched Access
ARE-ON is the only provider in Arkansas with access to Internet2 and their national network access to Cloud infrastructure providers and applications. The ARE-ON Network also delivers high-bandwidth access to major internet services like Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Netflix through direct peering and consortiums that provide unmatched performance compared to standard internet service providers. Our members can collaborate in a frictionless manner to connect with their other campuses over the same shared network, collaborate with in-state peers, or connect to the thousands of other institutions connected via the extensive research and education network community in the US and around the world.
Flexible and Scalable Connections
To connect our members, we use a variety of leased fiber, owned fiber, and leased circuits to build purpose-built resiliency and speed for our member’s institutional sites. We offer services from single-site 1Gbps connections up to 100Gbps geographically diverse connections. The backbone and our fiber-optic footprint allow us to scale with our members growing bandwidth needs. There are no caps for our network service as we allow unlimited bandwidth up to the full use of the installed connection(s).
