Site Connection(s) to ARE-ON Network Platform

ARE-ON network engineers will work with you to design and build a right-fit connection for your site(s) that incorporates the requirements of budget, resiliency, and network needs. ARE-ON recommends a facility diverse and multiple fiber-path set of connections to each site for the optimal connection (3). One-time and recurring costs are the member's responsibility, including but not limited to construction, circuit and fiber leases, and other incurred connection fees.

FIBER CONNECTED MAIN SITE

  • Two local fiber-optic connections to the ARE-ON Network Platform,
    where fiber is available
  • 1Gbps, 10Gbps, or 100Gbps connections available, depending on site requirements
  • Two redundant connections to ARE-ON backbone routers

DEDICATED PRIVATE CIRCUIT CONNECTED SITES

ARE-ON will contract with a private provider to install a dedicated network connection from the site to the ARE-ON Network Platform at locations not served by the ARE-ON fiber-optic network.

One physical connection minimum, two logical ARE-ON backbone connections per site.

ADDITIONAL MEMBER SITES

Additional sites can be connected in various ways depending on the infrastructure
available and which network topology is preferred.

  • Direct connection to the ARE-ON Network Platform using ARE-ON fiber, leased fiber, or private circuits
  • Optional site-to-site connections between member campuses via ARE-ON infrastructure

Optional Services

Access to the ARE-ON Network Platform enables by-request access to other services and applications at design-driven additional one-time or ongoing charges by ARE-ON and/or service provider.

PEERING WITH SPECIALTY NETWORKS AND CONTENT PROVIDERS

Direct network peering via Layer 2 or Layer 3 connections between other ARE-ON members connected on the AREON network with providers at select peering exchanges in Dallas & Tulsa. Access to the Equinix marketplace of content providers. The cost will be assessed based on design.

MANAGED BORDER ROUTERS

ARE-ON can install and manage the border router(s) required to connect directly to the ARE-ON Network Platform. The costs are dependent on the number of sites, site connectivity speed and can be for a three or five-year term.

CONNECTION TO SELECT PUBLIC CLOUD PROVIDERS

Dedicated, multi-gigabit connections to Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud from your campus, leveraging Internet2 (4)

NETWORK DESIGN CONSULTATION

Network engineering consultation, design, and execution services by ARE-ON engineers; scope includes building-to-building fiber cabling and WAN networks; $150 per hour rate

PRIVATE MEMBER CLOUD

Private network cloud from member site to select members or service provider locations.
  1. https://www.carahsoft.com/buy/education-contracts/thequilt
  2. https://idhi.uams.edu/
  3. Member is responsible for installing and configuring the necessary internal site network components to take advantage of resilient connections to the ARE-ON platform.
  4. May require institutional membership to Internet2
